AviStar Audition: TweenStar Look 1

I don’t have a lot of confidence, so joining a SL pageant is a way for me to try to get over that a little. Human looks are still pretty difficult for me to pull off, but that’s also one of the reasons why I auditioned. It is totally out of my comfort zone and it will be a good way to challenge me creatively. Also, SL fashion is much fun, and while boys’ tweenster fashion is somewhat underrepresented, it’s my little niche that I’ve burrowed for myself.

Our audition was to dress and stylize for a summer activity. While I love summer, I have never been one for the beach (lives at the beach) or sports. We were also not supposed to wear too much white or black (loves black), so I had to come up with a way to be colorful while still wearing my favorite clothing color. I love art and this is what I came up with. My little mural artist…

I thought I would be docked points for not being high fashion, but I wanted to capture what summer was like for me as a kid, which is summed up in my outfit’s description:

Hi, I’m artichan and I’m ten years old. To me, summer is the best time of year. It’s always been about getting outside and getting messy. A lot of kids my age like to play sports, but I’d rather be by myself and paint. Getting to paint a mural is my biggest dream: being outside on a beautiful day, music pumping in my ear, paint smeared on my cheek. There’s nothing more freeing.

I started out with some skin tattoos from This is Wrong. It was way more subtle than some of the other painted body appliers I have seen. I also knew I needed a tank top to show off some of the paint, while also being logical to the concept. I thought about fishnet, some really colorful ones, but ultimately knew I needed one of my favorite designers Kioko Noire to help me out. He worked with me to come up with something that was cute, but also messy.

Honestly, my favorite part of this outfit was the backside. While I doubt I will ever wear an unrigged backpack in the competition again, it allowed me for a lot of cool stylizing. The thing was super difficult to fit while looking natural and searching for poses that didn’t clip was a two day process. I think I found the only 8 poses that didn’t clip the sides or shoulders. This is why kid bodies cannot compete with adults. We just don’t have as many rigged options for accessorizing.

Nevertheless, I made it work and looped an artist’s palette through a backpack strap and looped a keychain toy on one of the key rings. I thought they were nice touches.

Tweenstar Look 1

I can’t tell you how much fun, yet difficult this challenge was for me. Evidently the judges liked it too, which was a pleasant surprise. I have no runway experience and have no idea what they are looking for. Well, he’s to the next several weeks….
